The membership means NGIS is now formally recognised as a key data contributor of quality spatial information for Western Australia. Associate membership is a new category developed to allow federal government, local government, community groups and private organisations to become formally part of WALIS’ membership base.
Membership to WALIS was previously restricted to WA State Government departments only.
NGIS has been successful in its application for Associate Membership based on it’s commitment to the purpose of WALIS, support of its principles and its ability to actively contribute spatial information to the Western Australian Land Information System.
“This membership formally recognises the important role NGIS can play by contributing quality and valuable spatial information on Western Australia to be shared and accessed by other key departments,” Managing Director, Paul Farrell said.
“This will significantly expand on what spatial information is currently available on Western Australia, increasing the usefulness and ease of finding and using geographic information over any part of the State,” he said.
“Associate membership will allow NGIS to contribute data, be informed of WALIS-related activities and have the opportunity to influence policy and set standards, which mean NGIS can play a role in the future strategic direction of WALIS and how it operates,” he said.
