Paul Farrel appointed to ASIBA Board

ASIBA represents the spatial business community in Australia and combines the expertise and resources of the premier spatial information firms in Australia.

"ASIBA’s role is to promote the use and growth of spatial information and make sure that our private industry members are playing a role in this growth," commented Mr Farrell, a Director of NGIS Australia. “It’s a great honour to be chosen to represent our industry.”

He recently attended an ASIBA Board meeting and associated events held in Canberra. In his new role he had the opportunity to provide evidence at Parliament House to the “Inquiry Into The Coordination Of The Science To Combat The Nation’s Salinity Problem.” The hearing, chaired by Gary Nairn MP, was interested to hear Mr Farrell’s views on how the private sector can assist in the research effort.

Another event of note was a private dinner with the Attorney General, Phil Ruddock, to discuss the status of spatial information in Australia.

“Mr Ruddock was very receptive to the role that spatial information plays in emergency response situations such as the recent Canberra fires,” explained Mr Farrell.
