NGIS specialises in the development of GIS based environmental atlases and is currently collecting data relating to Australia’s northern river systems (WA, NT and QLD) and catchment areas that will support management and underpin sustainable water use in these areas. NGIS is also incorporating this data into a GIS database that will ultimately be compiled into the Australian Natural Resources Atlas.
NGIS offices in Perth and Canberra have teamed up with Ecobytes in the NT and GHD in QLD to contact data custodians throughout Australia to request the supply of data covering a broad spectrum of themes related to Tropical Rivers. Over 25 GB of data has been received and is currently being processed and analysed in conjunction with expert advice from the Northern Territory University.
The project is due for completion in mid-December and will benefit those interested in the protection and development of water resources in the tropical rivers of Australia.
