A significant component of the program related to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami, in particular Aceh. Mr Harris also visited Aceh during this trip.

Up to $8 billion has been promised to Indonesia from many donor, government and NGO agencies to support reconstruction.  This is significantly greater than the amount required for Aceh alone and many agencies are following Australia’s initiative and making the funds available to programs in other parts of Indonesia.

Austrade believe that now is an excellent time to enter the Indonesian market.  NGIS is working with other like-minded companies in WA to develop strategies to best place it to support reconstruction projects in Aceh.
