NGIS has extensive experience in performing complex and technically demanding studies and has developed a reputation for excellence in the application of advanced 3D technology, particularly in the development of environmental assessment tools.
The key advantage to 3D modelling lies in the ability to demonstrate proposed changes ‘visually’ to the community, giving them a better understanding of the potential impacts a project may have on their current situation, allowing them to provide government bodies or other affected stakeholders with more valuable feedback.
While 3D modelling assists in demonstrating a proposed development to the public, it also adds value in project planning. 3D modelling allows planners to conduct a full ‘visual analysis’ that is not possible with 2D GIS. Visualising the height and colour of buildings, land elevations, vegetation and roadways provides a realistic picture of how a proposed development will look and allows planners to more accurately assess issues such as visibility and air flow.
NGIS China is Hong Kong's leading provider of 3D modelling, required to produce 3D GIS-based environmental models and animations.
NGIS can provide:
- 3D base models and inventory for various modelling applications.
- Turnkey 3D models and visualisations.
- Environmental modelling and data integration to support 3D EIA.
- Expertise in 3D Analyst, 3D Max, DirectX, VRML and X3D technologies.
- Processes to ensure data integrity is maintained.
- Integration with other systems.
NGIS China has developed the 3-Dimensional Environmental Impact Assessment (3D EIA) website for the Hong Kong Environment Protection Department to demonstrate mechanisms for improved visualisation and interaction with models of proposed projects.
The 3D EIA is a key tool in promoting Continual Public Involvement (CPI), as well as providing a simple and effective method for gathering public feedback throughout the life-cycle of infrastructure projects.
Other projects we have completed include:
- A 3D Model for visualising noise environment in urban areas for Hong Kong.
- A 3-D Digital Terrain Model for visualising visual Impact of the three strategic landfills to the nearest sensitive receivers for EPD
- A Digital Terrain Model (DTM) Generation for Hong Kong for OFTA.
NGIS has developed a number of interactive environmental visualisation tools to support EIA and environmental modelling activities.
NGIS is currently hosting the site for EPD at www.ngis.com.cn/epd/3deia/english/welcome.html
