The Challenge
LandCorp is required to engage many diverse stakeholders by supplying current, relevant and value-add information for property development across the entire state of Western Australia.
This involves access to a range of different datasets from agencies including Landgate, the ABS, the Department of Planning and the Department of Transport, to support informed decision making when planning large-scale property developments.
With timeliness and accuracy crucial for the overall success of LandCorp’s projects, an integrated GIS-based solution was required. NGIS’ solution NGIS was engaged to provide day-to-day mapping and data management services for LandCorp, including procedures for ongoing data maintenance, to standardise and maintain the quality of the data.
One of the first major projects was the Latitude32 Mapping Portal which delivered a solution adding value to LandCorp’s business processes by integrating disparate data sources into one GIS providing the project team with a single point of truth for land and financial information.
NGIS implemented a combination of ESRI and GeoSamba technology to serve on-demand mapping information to project teams over the internet. NGIS also provided mapping data for the high profile C2030 initiative, which aims to engage the community in a two-way conversation about the future infrastructure developments in Western Australia.
NGIS continues to provide data maintenance and application solution services to ensure quality and demands of LandCorp and its stakeholders are met. More specifically, NGIS provides statistical mapping services to help LandCorp understand the requirements and anticipate impacts of future infrastructure developments on neighbouring communities.

Furthermore, NGIS analyses development trends by considering changing demographics, housing types and land sales in local government areas in the Perth metropolitan and WA regional areas. One example of this was mapping the future extension of Indian Ocean Drive to investigate requirements to support growth in surrounding towns.
Key Benefits
A single GIS for storing, maintaining and accessing key datasets from a range of sources greatly boosted efficiency and empowered the business to make informed decisions regarding large-scale property development projects in Western Australia.
Immediate tangible benefits were provided by embedding a GIS into LandCorp’s core business processes, such as mitigating additional land development costs and helping to identify and plan stakeholder engagement strategies which increased the likelihood of neighbouring consent for development.
By using mapping products to engage with stakeholders, as highlighted in the proposed Alkimos project and the C2030 initiative, LandCorp strengthened its relationships with key stakeholders.
The ongoing relationship between NGIS and LandCorp allowed the business to draw on the wealth of GIS experience required for major planning projects, and ensured GIS capability was maximised. NGIS’ involvement with data management procedures and data maintenance also ensured data quality and reduced redundancy and associated inefficiencies.
Overall, LandCorp has streamlined business processes and created innovative solutions by using data from various sources to make considered decisions about future proposed property developments in Western Australia. |
