A team of NGIS advisers provided expert advice to various sections of the Fiji Department of Mineral Resources on the implementation of a GIS, remote sensing procedures and database development.
Project details
As part of this AusAid-funded institutional strengthening project, NGIS worked closely with various departments of the Fiji Department of Mineral Resources, providing guidance on the selection and implementation of a GIS to meet their needs. After selecting an appropriate solution, NGIS created a project definition and scope document for AusAid's approval, as well as a project management plan detailing development priorities, timeframes and work plans.
NGIS evaluated the department's current data collection and management process. On completing the evaluation, NGIS provided guidance on the design of a GIS database (MapInfo), as well as procedures on how to best collect and manage data moving forward. NGIS also provided expert advice on remote sensing techniques.
Finally, to ensure the sustainability of the solution implemented, NGIS developed and conducted a MapInfo and ER Mapper training program and workshop, also assisting with the production of a geoscience exploration data package.
This project was funded by AusAID.
